Perhaps we should all be aware of the fact that George Orwell wrote “1984” while suffering from tuberculosis. No doubt his illness influenced the gloomy tones of this novel. At least, this is how I felt it when I read it. But what's more important here is that his main inspiration was his passion for freedom of speech. Orwell showcases the ways communist parties alter humanity and history. One of the quotes I love most from this book is: “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past. No wonder then that "1984” has been banned and even burned because it offered insight to those under the leadership of oppressive regimes.
