It's January, 1946, and writer Juliet Ashton sits at her desk, vainly seeking a subject for her next book. Out of the blue, she receives a letter from one Dawsey Adams of Guernsey - by chance, he's acquired a secondhand book that once belonged to Juliet - and, spurred on by their mutual love of Charles Lamb, they begin a correspondence.
On the whole this book was well received by most of our group. I found it a heart-warming tale, written in the form of letters between the characters. It was easy to read, funny and sad, suitable for male and female readers alike. I would definitely recommend this book to other groups. The book is a refreshing piece of work which can lift spirits; without a group needing to pull it apart and analyse the book. Sometimes this kind of book is needed to show that readings can just be enjoyable.
