Edwards's novel is a testament to the richness and variety of life found in even the smallest of towns. In recounting his 80 years on the tiny Channel Island of Guernsey, Ebenezer Le Page proves himself as wise in the ways of the world as any cosmopolitan.
Reading Group review. We felt this book was too long to be suitable for a reading group. A couple of the group didn't finish it. The group members who did finish it enjoyed the story, the characters, and the descriptions. The history of people's lives were interesting. We would give the book 7/10 and recommend it to people who have time to read it.
