The two stories in this book are biographical fiction based on real events affecting families on the Island of Guernsey. In "Au Revoir, Sarnia Chérie" ("Good-bye, Dear Guernsey") author Veronica Steele describes the massive evacuation of children in June 1940, to avoid having to live under Nazi occuption, as seen through the eyes of a 15 year-old boy. In "Choosing Home" she describes what it was like to return home five years later, through the eyes of a 13 year-old girl who was only 7 when she was evacuated and hardly remembers her parents -- Preface.
